On a bright, sunny and hot August day, we packed bottles and bottles of water and headed to Tommy Thompson Park. The park is accessible by TTC, but at the same time, the park was well away from any commercial establishments. En route to the park, there is a Canada Post office with beautiful paintings of stamps with birds.
My 9-year-old was eager to see animals and birds, but we didn't have much luck. We saw some gulls, terns and Canada geese. The park has a well-maintained trail, accessible for both pedestrians and cyclists. Although the Nature Centre was closed, the park employees had laid out a small table with lots of fun stuff like animal skeletons, skins and factsheets.
The heat was relentless, but the view was breathtaking. The turquoise waters of Lake Ontario was a sight to behold. Colourful wildflowers lined the pebbly beaches, and the cicadas and other winged friends buzzed around making that quintessential forest orchestra. The day was too hot, so we had to turn back about mid-way. I wish we had pushed on and finished the trail. Perhaps, another time. Maybe, in the Fall. For now, let's enjoy the pictures:
